A collection of antique English graduated copper haystack pitchers or measure jugs retaining the original lead seals. The imperial seals ensured patrons in pubs that they were indeed getting the correct amount of ale that they paid for. These lovely 19th-Century measures are very collectible and it is very difficult to find a complete set.They are hand forged and have their original wonderful patination.The measure size is from 1/2 pint to 1/8 gill. The gill, pronounced like the girl's name Jill is an English imperial unit for measuring volume. It is equal to a quarter of a pint.
